(News) LETTER FROM P : "RAPPERS SCARED TO SPEAK THEIR MINDS”

Via hnic2.com

WHAT’S UP PEOPLE? I MISS YOU ALL.

I MISS THE LOVE AND THE HATE, BUT NO WORRIES I’M ALMOST HOME. LET ME START OFF BY SAYING, GOD DAMN! IT SEEMS LIKE 40 GLOCC PUT A 40 GLOCC VIRUS IN MY WEBSITE. THAT NIGGA IS ALL OVER THE PLACE. THAT’S MY COMRAD AND I ASKED HIM TO KEEP HNIC2.COM INTERESTING WHILE I’M AWAY, BUT GOD DAMN! BUT, IT’S ALL-GOOD. I LOVE MY NIGGA FOR REAL. 40 IS A LOT LIKE ME CAUSE WE ARE TWO VERY OUTSPOKEN INDIVIDUALS. WE SPEAK OUR MINDS AND RARELY EVER HOLD BACK. THAT SCARES A LOT OF PEOPLE CAUSE PEOPLE ARE SCARED OF CONFRONTATION. THEY’RE SCARED THAT THEY WILL OFFEND SOMEBODY AND THEN HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. IT’S STRANGE TO ME. SINCE WHEN DID THIS HIP-HOP THING OF OURS BECOME FILLED WITH SO MUCH FEAR? HIP-HOP, JUST LIKE ROCK’N’ ROLL, WAS CREATED IN THE POVERTY STRICKEN BLACK COMMUNITIES AS A WAY TO EXPRESS OURSELVES THREW MUSIC. A WAY TO REBEL AGAINST THE CORRUPT GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE WHO TRIED TO KEEP US DOWN AND OUT.
HIP-HOP AND ROCK’N’ROLL IS REBEL MUSIC. NO MATTER WHERE IT IS NOW OR THE CHANGES IT’S GONE THREW, IT WILL ALWAYS BE REBEL MUSIC CREATED BY PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN THREW HELL, SO THEY HAD NOTHING ELL’S TO FEAR. THINK ABOUT THIS FOR A MOMENT, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OF LAND THEFT, SLAVERY, MURDER, GENOCIDE, LYNCHING, RAPE, RACISIM, AND SEGRAGATION BACK IN THE DAYS TO THE LAND THEFT, MENTAL SLAVERY, MURDER, GENOCIDE, RACISIM AND SEGRAGATION OF THIS VERY DAY. (AND DON’T TELL ME RACISIM OR SEGRAGATION IS OVER. JUST LOOK AT MOST OF THE T.V. SHOWS, MOVIES, ADVERTISEMENTS, “TOP MODELS” OR THE COVERS OF MOST “MAJOR” MAGAZINES. NOT TO MENTION THE 9 TO 5 CORPORATE WORLD RACISIM AND SEGRAGATION IS ALIVE AND KICKING BLACKS IN THE ASS.)

AFTER, ALL THESE YEARS OF DELIVERING PURE EVIL TO THIS PLANET. YOU PEOPLE HAVE THE NERVE TO ACT LIKE IT’S ALL IN THE PAST AND REBELS LIKE PRODIGY SHOULDN’T ADDRESS THESE ISSUES? I SHOULD JUST PUT ON A TIGHT (EUROPEAN CUT) OUTFIT, WAVE A GUCCI SCARF, LEARN TO USE THE WORD “SWAGGER,” AND MAKE “SAFE NIGGA” MUSIC INSTEAD OF MY REBEL, REALITY RAP THAT MADE MOBB DEEP SO POPULAR FROM 1993 TO 2000 AND NOW. I SHOULDN’T ROCK THE BOAT AND GET “MASSA” ANGRY. NO SIR, DON’T WANT TO GET MASSA ANGRY CAUSE THEN MY CAREER WILL GET “BLACK” BALLED AND I’LL BE “BLACK” LISTED. (YOU KNOW I’M BOUT TO SPAZZ, RIGHT?)

LISTEN UP, FUCK THE TIGHT EUROPEAN CUT (THEY SELL THAT SAME EXACT OUTFIT IN A XXL OR XXXL), FUCK MASSA, FUCK A BLACKBALL AND A BLACKLIST, FUCK GUCCI, FUCK “SWAGGER,” FUCK ALL YOU SAFE FLAMINGO ASS NIGGAS THAT’S SCARED TO ROCK THE BOAT AND FUCK THAT BOAT TOO. I’LL FLIP THAT BITCH OVER. SOME PEOPLE ARE VERY UPSET WITH PRODIGY RIGHT NOW CAUSE I REMIND THEM OF THE TRUTH. THEY DON’T WANT TRUTH--THEY WANT FANTASY. THEY WANT TO STAY IN THEIR LITTLE EUROPEAN CUT WORLD WHERE THEY FEEL SAFE AND FAR REMOVED FROM THE REBELS WHO ROCK THE BOAT. REBELS LIKE; MALCOLM X, TUPAC, DR. YORK, CHUCK-D, FARRAKHAN, PROFESSOR GRIFF, SISTA SOULJAH, MARTIN LUTHER KING, DAVE CHAPPELLE, PAUL MOONEY, SPIKE LEE, MOS DEF, TALIB, DEAD PREZ, AND ANDRE 3000—JUST TO NAME A FEW. YOU GOT A LOT OF FRADULENT REBELS AND REVOLUTIONARIES WHO ARE REALLY FALSE PROPHETS. THEY ARE OPPORTUNIST WHO PUT ON A REBEL/REVOLUTIONARY CLOAK FOR SOME SHORT TERM GOAL LIKE AN ALBUM PROMOTION, OR IT’S THE LATEST TREND THEY WANT TO FOLLOW AND APPEAR INTELLIGENT AND “IN THE KNOW,” OR THEY WANT TO MAKE IT SEEM LIKE THEY WANT TO CREATE CHANGE WHEN ALL THEY REALLY WANT TO CREATE IS SOME GOOD PUBLICITY AND CHANGE IN THEIR POCKETS. WHEN THEY GET CONFRONTED AND CALLED OUT BY PEOPLE LIKE ME, THEY SAY THINGS LIKE-“PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO THINK, THEY WANT TO HAVE FUN AND PARTY.” AND A NUMBER OF OTHER LAME EXCUSES THEY USE TO SLIDE THEIR WAY OUT OF THE DEBATE OR CONVERSATION. THEY REALLY JUST DON’T GIVE A FUCK BUT ARE SCARED TO SPEAK THEIR MINDS AND SAY “LISTEN, I DON’T GIVE A FUCK ABOUT ALL THAT SHIT. I JUST MAKE MONEY.” I CAN RESPECT THAT MORE THAN TRYING TO ACT LIKE PRODIGY IS WRONG OR CRAZY.

LOOK, I CAN UNDERSTAND IF YOU’RE SCARED TO ROCK THE BOAT AND SPEAK THE TRUTH THAT WILL HELP SET ENSLAVED YOUNG BLACK MINDS FREE. YOU WANNA GET RICH AND FEED YOUR FAMILY. I UNDERSTAND—COMPLETELY. BUT, AT WHAT POINT DO WE CELEBRITIES, WHO CAN INFLUENCE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, SAY, “OKAY, I GOT MONEY UP, MY FAMILY IS GOOD, I’M FAMOUS, I MADE IT.” OH, I GET IT! FIRST YOU WERE SCARED TO SPEAK THE TRUTH AND HELP FREE YOUNG BLACK MINDS CAUSE YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD STOP YOU FROM BEING A BIG SUCCESS, AND NOW THAT YOU’VE MADE IT “BIG,” YOU’RE SCARED OF REVEALING THE TRUTH CAUSE YOU DON’T WANT TO LOSE YOUR “STAR POWER,” YOUR ACCESS INTO THE EUROPEAN CUT CLUB. PEOPLE ARE SO FULL OF SHIT!!!

THEY DON’T WANT NO PARTS OF THIS REVOLUTION AND THAT’S OKAY, IT’S NOT FOR SAFE FLAMINGO ASS NIGGAS. I WANT TO END THIS BLOG WITH ANOTHER SUBJECT REAL QUICK.

WHEN I SAY THAT THIS PRISON TIME ALLOWED ME TO REPAIR MY RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MOST HIGH, I’M NOT REFERRING TO MY VERSE ON “PEARLY GATES.” MY VERSE ON THAT SONG IS ABOUT THE EUROPEAN “GOD” IN THE EUROPEAN BIBLE, AND THE EUROPEAN “JESUS” WHICH IS REALLY ZEUS (JE-ZUES). IT’S NOT ABOUT THE NUBIAN MOST HIGH AND TAMMUZ WHERE THE EUROPEANS TOLE THEIR “GOD” AND JUESUS STORY FROM. AND, YES, I WANT TO BE JUST LIKE MALCOLM X. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I AM MALCOLM X!!! YOU AIN’T GET MAD AT SPIKE LEE FOR SAYING THAT IN HIS MOVIE, SO WHY YOU SO UPSET WITH PRODIGY? PEOPLE ARE SO FULL OF SHHIT….

PEACE

(News) Cormega to premier new album @ S.O.B.'s April 8th

CORMEGA PREMIERS NEW ALBUM BORN & RAISED AT EXCLUSIVE LISTENING PARTY WITH PERFORMANCE AT NEW YORK’S S.O.B. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8th.

“What’s up with Cormega, have you seen him? Are y’all together?” The infamous lines that introduced Cormega to the hip-hop world are exactly what fans have been asking since the lyricist’s last solo album, The True Meaning, in 2002. Well, if you’re wondering the exact same thing, join Cormega and Legal Hustle Records as they present an “up close & personal” sneak preview performance of songs from Cormega’s upcoming album, Born & Raised, to be released Summer 2009. Although he won’t reveal the surprise performers, special invited guests include DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, Easy Mo Bee, Havoc, Buckwild, DR Period, Nottz, Lil Fame, Emile, Ayatollah and all the producers on the album. The official exclusive listening party/performance takes place Wed, April 8th (Doors open @ 7pm, Showtime @ 9pm) at New York’s SOB Night Club located at 204 Varick Street at West Houston in Manhattan. General admission is $12 in advance and $15 day of show.

While Cormega has released several projects on his Legal Hustle imprint, only two can be considered Cormega solo albums: The Realness (2001) and The True Meaning (2002). In 2009, Cormega returns with his third official solo album, Born & Raised, to be released like his other projects on Legal Hustle Records (see below press release for full discography of releases). “I’m proud of all my albums. It’s been seven years since my last solo album and this new one. Born & Raised represents me because I got to work with artist I respect and some of my favorite producers,"explains Cormega. “Your albums are like your kids. One kid might achieve more than the other one but you love them all. The Testament was my first album, so I have good memories from that album. I’m proud of The Realness because that’s my first independent debut that I released on my label, Legal Hustle Records. It showed people that I could make an album on my own. By my third album, True Meaning, I was starting to get industry recognition. That album got me a Source Award for Independent Artist Of The Year, the first time they created that category, and an Impact Award honor from the Underground Music Awards for making the most impact on underground music scene.” In between albums, Cormega released several side projects like: Special Edition, Got Beats? and a DVD with compilation album Who Am I?

A demo version of “Fresh,” produced by Emile featuring Big Daddy Kane, Grand Puba, KRS-One, PMD with intro by DJ Red Alert was leaked, but has since been rerecorded and produced by Buckwild. He describes the song as his proudest musical moment. “I’m looking forward to performing that song at the show!” offers Cormega. “These were the emcees I looked up to. I remember the days when I had Kane’s posters on my wall, CDs by KRS-One and like everybody in New York, I used to record DJ Red Alert cassettes off the radio, so for me to do a song with Kane, KRS-One, Puba, and P.M.D. and then on top of that have Red Alert on it, is a dream realized.”

While mixing Born & Raised, and preparing to debut the new songs on-stage at SOB’s, Cormega is also working on an upcoming Queensbridge album which he describes as “very raw.” “There are artists on there who aren’t even top artists, but they’re known around the way. There are underdogs on there who are kicking ass. Screwball has a song that’s gonna fuck you up and a lot of people aren’t even up on Screwball like that. Havoc has some beats on it that are tough and my man Jaguar is doing some production on there too. He did like three joints on there. I’m also working on a Legal Hustle Volume 2 soon after that. It’s going to be a lot of work, but I can just hope my fans are with me and that they support the digital sale of the album. You’ll be hearing from me in 2009, I’m going to make up for all the years I was gone.”

(News) Cormega feels Queens-HipHop.com rating system is disrespectful

that rating system is NOT cool especially in todays climate when we trying to unify NY you better off giving an honest rating because every borough thinks highly of itself.
- Cormega

In our defense we didn't mean for it to come off in a disrespectful manner. The order in the system was determined in terms of contributions to Hip Hop. By no means are we saying that Manhattan or Staten Island hip hop is not up to par. Cuban Links 2 could end up being a classic and end up with a Queens rating, who knows. Regardless we want to thank Cormega for sharing his thoughts and we're looking foward to the new mixtape & album.

Do you have feedback on the new rating system? We want to know. Hit up the comment section here or hit up our chatbox. Don't want your opinion to be made public send us an email qborohiphop@gmail.com.

(Review) Capone-N-Noreaga - Channel 10

I'd like to welcome you to our inaugural review, and who better to set it off with then the mighty Queens duo Capone-N-Noreaga. The road hasn't been a smooth one for CNN, ever since they burst on the scene with their classic 1997 debut "The War Report". Capone was imprisoned prior to the release of "The War Report" and keeping with tradition he was also incarcerated before the release of their follow up "The Reunion". Capone's legal troubles gave birth to Nore's solo career which was received well commercially. His 1998 solo debut "N.O.R.E." went on to sell over a million units, followed by gold plaques for "Melvin Flynt - Da Hustler" & "God's Favorite".

Along the way there have been East Coast/West Coast wars, Hot 97 shoot outs & even a failed attempt to infiltrate the Reggaeton market. Capone-N-Noreaga have definately earned their stripes. Regardless of all their trials and tribulations they somehow managed to survive the trenches and now they're back still reporting.

Lets get one thing out the way, if you're expecting another "War Report" do us all a favor, get a gun, put it in your mouth, and just shoot yaself. All you emotional internet babies talking about "we miss the nineties" need to just off yourselves already.

Setting things off we get the classic Cable News Network drop "This is CNN" leading into a montage of past hits. First cut on the album is the slow flower "United We Stand". You would expect something more uptempo but this actually works well. They ride the track like the veterans they are and show these new age rapid spitters that sometimes less is more. Next up is the sonic Ron Browz produced "Rotate" ft. a supercharged verse from another veteran Busta Rhymes. You can't front on this joint, shit knocks. "Talk To Me Big Time" comes blaring thru the speakers with some Scarface-esque strings and Capone-N-Noreaga trade bars back n forth like only a select few in the game can. "Bring It Here" comes in w/ "one shot two shot three shots four....". Kind of has the same vibe as the previous song maybe they should've combined the two.

Premier saves the day with "Grand Royale". This beat is sinister. Classic head nod shit. "The Argument" is probably the most genuine cut on the album. I remember when this song leaked people said they weren't feeling the beat. I think it has a nice vibe, video is hilarious too.

"Mirror" has Nore on the hook with a Tupac-esque cadence. Creative track digging the beat, "I saw death around the corner while slinging the yay/ so I got a little smarter and went the opposite way" word, I hear that. "Wooble, Wobble" yeah this is what we've been waiting for. That classic Queens sound, doesn't dissappoint.

This album really surprised me I guess my expectations weren't too high. There's a lot of bangers on here like the SPK produced "Channel 10" and one of the hardest beats I've ever heard in the Alchemist produced "Follow The Dollar". I was expecting my first review to be a "3 Borough" rated effort, but ladies and gentleman "Channel 10" is a "Certified Street Banger".

"Nuclear Winter represents many things. It represents dark times in our lives, it represents the state of NY hip hop & how I feel about it, & it represents my blueprint on how I think the music should be done going forward into the future. This is my manifesto to all the people that doubted me & the kryptonite to all selfishness. It's a journey from darkness into light, & from bondage & the huge amounts of weight on our shoulders to breaking free and regaining our freedom. Nuclear Winter we're coming to take shine....." - Willie Maze
